Important Words: Your sins are forgiven
Key Scripture: Mark 2:1-12
1. A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. 2. They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. 3. Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. 4. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. 5. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”
6. Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, 7. “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
8. Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things? 9. Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’? 10. But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the man, 11. “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” 12. He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”
All have sinned Romans 3:23-24 23. for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24. being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus.
We are all born in sin and we all need a Savior. We all need the forgiveness of our sins. We are born with Adam's nature of sin. Adam, the first man, sinned in the garden of Eden. He disobeyed God. Now, no one can be righteous on his own. We all need to be justified through Jesus Christ, the Redeemer.
Sin leads to suffering
There are many people today who are suffering because they are living in sin. Sin attracts trouble and death. It opens the door to suffering. People today are excelling in sin and hence the increase in their suffering. People go against the will of God and as a result they open doors for the devil to torment them.
Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor His ear too dull to hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hearIsaiah59:1-2NIV
There are many who are praying today but their prayers are not answered because they continue to sin. They are in trouble but the Lord who is able to save them cannot work in their lives because of the blockage of sin. They call upon God and they are not heard by Him who answers prayers because they are living in sin. God is able to save, He is able to deliver and He is able to hear and answer prayers. Let us compare sin with something that is rotten and smelling bad. Would you want that to be near that? Can you enjoy looking at dirt? Can you stay next to a smelling dustbin? You will obviously look away from rotten things and you will close your nose to a foul smell. Sin smells bad to God and it is not good to see. If you cannot stand dirty things yourself, how do you expect the righteous God to look at you when you are living in sin? We have to be forgiven before we can proceed and talk to God about our lives. A bath in the Blood of Jesus is needed before we can receive other things from God.
All of us want good things
It is true that there is no normal human being who wants bad things in his life. Everyone wants to have a great life. We want healing, we want to be free, and we want to be blessed with good things. All the goodness is found at the table of God but first things first. You do not start by going to the table where all goodness is served before you are cleansed of your sins.
The bath of the Blood of Jesus
When you are invited to a banquet, you need to bath and be clothed well for the occasion. The Lord invites us to the banquet where there will be feasting and He wants to cleanse us Himself. He wants us to have a bath in His Blood where we are washed clean. He wants us to be clothed in robes of righteousness so that we can eat at His table. Many want to approach the table with dirt. They refuse to take a bath and they want to just get inside the banquet hall and eat. It is not allowed! There are rules that you are washed and clothed before you enter the hall and eat. Repent of your sins and then qualify to receive from the Lord. There is all that you need in Jesus. Get rid of all sins and draw closer to Him. "Submit then to God, resist the devil and he shall flee from you" James 4:7. Your prayers shall be answered if you live a righteous life. You shall be able to enjoy your life. We usually deal with people who come to church and say: ‘we need help, we need healing and deliverance!’ When you tell them about salvation they say we do not want to receive Jesus but we want to be helped.
First things first
When we look at the key scripture we should learn some things from there. When the paralytic was brought before Jesus, Jesus did not start by speaking words of healing to him. He started with the most important matters because what is the use of receiving healing in your body whereas your soul is sick? What is the use of getting physical things whereas at the end of your time on earth your spirit goes to hell and suffers? Jesus started by addressing the issue of forgiveness. He saw the men's faith in Him and He started by saying “your sins are forgiven". This is the number one thing that all of us should seek for in Jesus Christ. You might be in need of healing and other earthly things but the question is: are your sins forgiven? Jesus has all the things you need. He is an answer to your problems. He has the solution to whatever you are going through but He wants you to first believe in Him and be saved. He wants you to be reconciled with the Father. After the paralytic of Mark 2 received the forgiveness of sins, then another miracle followed; he then qualified to receive from the laid table of the Lord. Jesus then said "arise, take your mat and go home". There are many who are seeking after the things of God. The rule is "seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these other things shall be added " Matthew 6:33. Repentance shall open doors for you to can access the goodness of the Lord. God cares about your soul and He does not want you to die and suffer in hell. "Today when you hear His word do not harden your heart..." Hebrews 3:1 Surrender to God and He shall wash you clean and it shall be well with your soul. There is a life of peace and joy in Jesus Christ. There are blessings and prosperity in Him. There is also healing and deliverance in Him. Do not reject Him. He comes to you with life in abundance.
