Scripture reading: Daniel 3:28-29 “Then Nebuchadnezzar said, “Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who has sent his angel and rescued his
servants! They trusted in him and defied the king’s command and were willing to give up their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own God. Therefore I decree that the people of any nation or language who say anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego be cut into pieces and their houses be turned into piles of rubble, for no other god can save in this way.” (NIV)

In Daniel 3 we read about Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego who refused to bow down to the image of gold made by king Nebuchadnezzar. They were sentenced to be thrown into a blazing furnace that was heated seven times hotter than usual. Just as the king was hoping to enjoy watching these men being devoured by the fire after being thrown in, he realised something very strange; a fourth man was with them in the fire and they were walking freely within the furnace. Upon seeing this, King Nebuchadnezzar leaped to his feet in amazement.
He released them and they came out without even the slightest evidence that they had been in a fire because God was with them. The king suddenly realised that Jehovah is a faithful God who literally walks with His people in their troubles. He eventually could not help but acknowledge and give glory to Jehovah after experiencing the power of the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. Are we not supposed to follow their example and be firm even when the devil has thrown us in the fires of this life? The Lord wants people who will obey and worship Him even in terrible situations like these men.
The Lord is always with those who have received Him and keep His commands. He wants people who will obey and worship Him even in unfavourable conditions. In that way, He will never let the attacks of the enemy destroy you. When your enemies have come together and prepared fires meant to devour you, like in the case of these men, your enemies shall see you come out without the smell of fire. Your enemies will know that your God is alive and He rescues His own. They will know His mighty power and they will want to receive Him as well. Like Nebuchadnezzar, they will confess that Jehovah is the only true God.
Child of God, be a true Christian who displays the splendour of your God. Make it your mission to be a Christ ambassador who is a magnet for lost souls. If you keep God’s commands after receiving Christ, the Lord shall make sure they the fires of the devil do not destroy you. Instead, your enemies shall know Him and they shall give glory to Him. If you have not received Christ as your Lord and Saviour, receive Him today and follow His commands. In that way He will never allow troubles to swallow you. May the fourth man be with you in the fires that you are currently in and may you walk out of your troubles without the smell of fire in Jesus name!
