Scripture Reading: Luke 2:8-12 “Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.”

In the above scripture we learn of an extraordinary event which took place at the time of the birth of Christ. An angel of God visited some shepherds around the area where the Lord Jesus was born and he announced His birth to them. As the angel spoke to them, the glory of the Lord shone around them and this made them very afraid. When the angel realised that they were afraid, he commanded them not to be frightened; it was a time to be joyful because the Lord had come. His coming brought solutions to every problem that those who receive Him would ever face. The birth of Christ brought us freedom from fear. The shepherds became joyful when they received the good news and even those who receive Christ today automatically receive joy and peace.

You might be probably going through a lot of problems and facing uncertainties. You may even be going through things that are threatening to take away your life and wondering how to overcome them. Today I bring you Good News, child of God. The coming of Jesus brought freedom from the bondage of the fear of death. This means that we cannot be afraid anymore because Jesus brought to nought the works of the one who had power over death, and that is the devil. Today, the light of God shines upon those who were living in the shadow of death. You shall not die but you shall live and proclaim the goodness of the Lord. This is all because of Christmas.

The power of the Good News overrides any feelings of depression caused by the devil. Those who receive Him get filled with joy and peace that surpass all understanding. Their peace does not depend on circumstances around them, no matter how bad they are. How can we be afraid when sicknesses, diseases, persecutors and death have no power over us? Jesus nullified their power over us by His coming! For you who have received Christ, this means nothing qualifies to steal your joy.

Have you received the Good News? Have you received Jesus Christ? If so, then It shall always be well in your life regardless of the problems that you may be facing. Your peace and joy cannot be taken away by your enemies. The Good News of Christmas is greater than all your problems combined. If you have not received Jesus in your life, receive Him as your Lord and Saviour today and He shall give you peace that cannot be taken away by the devil!
