Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 2:1-5 “So put aside every trace of malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander and hateful speech; like new-born babies [you should] long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may be nurtured and grow in respect to salvation [its ultimate fulfilment]… You [believers], like living stones, are being built up into a spiritual house for a holy and dedicated priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices [that are] acceptable and pleasing to God through Jesus Christ.” (AMP).

A Christian cannot grow spiritually unless sins are renounced. As we continue seeking the face of the Lord in this fasting season, separate yourself from all form of sin and come closer to Jesus through His Word. We are commanded in the above passage to do away with all form of evil and seek spiritual maturity instead. Jesus wants His people to live in harmony and build each other up instead of tearing one another into pieces. But, instead of imitating God, many practice what they learn from the devil. They hurt other people through deceit and lies. How could you claim to love another person when you make them believe false stories? Telling the truth and loving one another go hand in hand. When you love someone, you shall always tell them the truth.

When the purging of sin takes place, then the Word of God does what He sends it to do in your life (Isaiah 55:11). A Christian cannot survive without the Word. In fact, in verse 2 God commands us to have a longing for it. Peter uses the analogy of a new born baby whose source of nourishment is milk, to express how intense our desire for the Word of God should be. Babies instinctively know how in need they are of their mother’s milk and their craving for it does not stop. Milk is their source of nutrients and their fuel. When it comes to desiring the milk that nourishes your spiritual being, you have to be like a new born baby. This means that you should not function properly without the milk of the Word. Your yearning for it should be like that of an infant; it is your life source. Do not allow yourself to stay for long periods without nourishing yourself with the Word of God. Otherwise you would be depriving your spirit being of the essential nutrients to properly grow in the Lord. Just like babies who grow through milk, it is through the Word that you shall grow spiritually.
You have already tasted how good the Lord is and that alone should compel you to seek more of His grace in pursuing His Word. When you crave you shall eat, and when you eat you shall be satisfied. You shall enjoy yourself as you continue indulging in it and it shall benefit you a lot in all areas of your life. Let the reading of the Word be your lifestyle and form part of your daily habits. You cannot expect to grow if you only read your bible on Sunday when you go to church. The Word of God is alive and when it is received by faith, it brings life to the person receiving it. You shall go very far in your life if you start feeding your spirit being as often as you feed your physical body.
The more you receive the Word and obey it, the closer you become to the Living Stone, who is Jesus. As you do that, along with the other building blocks in the Body of Christ, you get integrated into a spiritual house. As a living stone, you are an integral part of God’s great spiritual building project. You are part of the holy priesthood; wholly dedicated and given over for holy purposes only.

Unlike the Old Testament priesthood, with which only those who were born into a certain tribe could be priests, all obedient Christians are priests who have the privilege and responsibility of offering spiritual sacrifices to God. There is nothing of yours that belongs to the devil; you are completely sold out to Christ. God has a special purpose for you. This is the reason why you should leave all wickedness behind. Do not miss your calling as a Royal Priest. Do not allow yourself to go back to your sins when God has ordained you for such special purposes and given you such a special title. You play a big role in God’s family. As a chosen priest, your job is to enter the Holy of Holies and offer sacrifices to the One who has called you out darkness into His glorious light.

Child of God, you need to advance spiritually by leaving all your sins behind and seeking God through His Word. As a chosen priest, make sure that you wash your garments clean because you have the privilege of going inside the Holy of Holies and offer your sacrifices!
