Scripture Reading: 2 Timothy 2:20-21 “In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use. Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.”
Many people want to belong to the family of God and have the privilege of being called Christians. However, not everyone qualifies to be called a child of God. One needs to be completely sold out to Christ and be above reproach. In the church of God today, many have a tendency of confessing Christ with the mouths but practice the opposite of His will at the same time. They want to be filled with the precious oil of God that is reserved only for the true Christians, yet they are not willing to be separated from their sins. You as a Christian need to understand that you cannot be approved in the Kingdom of God without upholding holiness, which is God’s character.

In the above scripture, Paul uses the picture of household utensils to demonstrate the idea of holiness in the church. He describes the gold and silver utensils as those used on special occasions for serving special guests and those of clay and wood used for common purposes. Even in the house of God, the people of God represent different vessels, fit for different purposes. Those who are vessels of honour in the hand of the Master live blameless lives of being completely separated from sin. They bring profit to the Kingdom of God by spreading the fragrance of Christ and attracting others to God. These are gold and silver utensils, separated for holy use only. Unfortunately, too many people backslide into the ways of the world and allow themselves to be entangled in sin after they have found Christ. When you do that, you are like a common utensil that is made of wood and clay. You are a vessel of dishonour because your lifestyle does not please God at all.
God has stipulated in His Word the qualifications for approval as His vessel of honour. If you go to church but still enjoying a life of sin, God cannot use you for His holy purposes because He does not share a house with the devil. During this time of fasting, you have to allow yourself to be properly cleansed first so that you become His vessel. In that way, God shall fill you with His precious oil and use you for special purposes. The oil of God shall enable you to win many souls to the Kingdom of God and you shall lay hands on the sick and they shall be healed.
These days, the church is filled with people with dead consciences. They lie habitually in the presence of the Holy Spirit and they never admit their wrong doing until they are presented with evidence against them. Why do people have to go through the trouble of proving you guilty when you can just tell the truth and shame the devil as a child of God? Lies are of the devil and if you are a liar, you belong to your father the devil (John 8:44). If you continue fasting with no intention of repenting, you are just wasting your precious time! Child of God, this is a perfect time for your repentance. It is also time to get rid of all the addictions and bad habits you have been struggling with. If you are a man who seriously struggles with lust, this is the time to purge yourself. If you are a woman with a spirit that makes you to run around sleeping with men, this is the time to confess all your sins and repent. Let me remind you that God does not hear the prayers of a sinner unless they repent.
There are people who want to be blessed by God while they are still swimming in the mud of sin. Do you really expect to receive the blessings of God while you continue misrepresenting Him to the world? If you receive all the blessings of the Kingdom in your sins, you shall bring confusion to the lost. They will see no need for repentance seeing that those who do wrong also get blessed. Hence God only reserves heavenly blessings for His vessels of honour; those who live in holiness.
Repentance is possible child of God. Do not be in the habit of making excuses about your sins. If you do, you are denying the power of the blood of Jesus. The blood of Jesus is powerful and it is able to cleanse you of all your sins. It is very important to also note that God cannot be mocked. He sees everything that you do and He shall expose all your wicked ways if you continue being stubborn. What you do whispering shall be shouted out on top of the mountains for everyone to hear one day. Those whom you are trying to fool shall soon find out that you are a hypocrite. Why do you allow yourself to be recruited by the devil to defile the church of God?
Child of God, God wants you to be useful and fruitful. A fruitless tree stands to be cursed. Jesus cursed the fig tree because it did not have fruit (Matthew 21:18-19). Be useful for praiseworthy things that God wants to use you for. He wants to do great things through your life and put you on display so that people can see His splendour. Live a profitable life that is pleasing to the Master. Every one shall see you prosper spiritually and when you prosper in the spirit, you shall shine in all areas of your life. Even sinners shall follow you because you shall walk in blessings that shall be seen by people. Everything that you possess shall attract people to the Kingdom. Allow yourself to be the Vessel of Honour in your Master’s hand!
