Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. Scripture Reference: Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV)

From reading the scripture quoted above we can see that God does not want His people to dwell in the past. He is a creative God who is able to constantly make new things. When He spoke these words to the Israelites, they were in the captivity of the Babylonians and He wanted them to know that He was making a way out. The Lord had won so many victories for the Israelites in the past, but He did not want them to focus on that because He was capable of doing more powerful things. The Israelites had also suffered a lot in the hands of their enemies, however, God wanted them to move on from their past pains. He had already set into motion a new direction and He wanted them to focus on that.

If you are a Christian, God does not want you to remain in the captivity of your past. You are created to move and be where God wants you to be. God wants you to experience His infinite power, therefore, you need to be flexible and move according to His will. There are some Christians who limit God by holding on to their past miracles and think that they have reached their ultimate goals. They do not give Him a chance to do new things in their lives. There are also those who are holding on to their past pains. Many were born again years ago but they are still crying about the pain they suffered before they received Christ. They are still depressed over things that were done against them in their childhood. If you are one of those, it means you have allowed those events to define who you are. People even associate you with failure and disappointments because that is how you portray yourself.

Maybe you attempted a business and it failed. Perhaps you have received a lot of regret letters in all your job applications that you have even given up on applying. You are even afraid of trying again because you are avoiding disappointments. Child of God, you are dwelling in the past failures and you have confined yourself in your past. Those things are preventing you from experiencing the infinite power of God. Do not listen to the voices of people who keep reminding you of your past. It is time you let go of such people. Let them remain in your past. You need to move and your time for moving is now!

God is inviting you to new things. He wants to do something new in your life today. Every year presents itself with new opportunities and possibilities and 2018 is no exception. You need to grab everything the Lord has prepared for you this year and fly high. Constantly looking behind you will stop you from seeing what is ahead. You need to wipe away yesterday’s tears and face every day with new hope. The devil will always present negative thoughts in trying to prevent you from moving forward. He will always try to make you think your life will not change but remain stagnant. He will always remind you of your past failures. I want to encourage you to believe God’s Word instead of the devil's. God says you are a new creation and your past is gone (2 Corinthians 5:17). You need to remind the devil of God’s promises and faithfulness. Remind him that God’s mercies and compassions are new everyday (Lamentations 3:22-23).

The Lord said “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?” This phrase child of God implies that you need to see things in your future before they manifest in the physical. As a Christian, you are expected to see what others cannot see through your eye of faith. The things of God are accessed by faith, and God needs people who walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). As a child of God, you have been given a second eye, an eye of faith. You need to utilise it effectively for opportunities not to pass. Jesus said all things are possible to him who believes (Mark 9:23). Thus, your faith in the Lord shall enable you to reach greaterr heights in life. However, when you are faithless you will remain where you have been for years, and you will always be filled with pain. As a result you will fail to see new opportunities even when conditions change.

Child of God, when you keep visiting your past failures, you cannot experience the power of the blood of Jesus that is able to transform your life. Now that you are born again, our problems, disappointments and pains are not bigger than the Lord. Allow yourself to be moulded by the Lord so you can be who He says you are. God wants you to relocate from where you are stuck to a new life full of miracles. God is calling you to your 2018, a year filled with possibilities and opportunities. You need to go there by faith! Come to your 2018!
