YOU HAVE A HIGHER CALLING
Ephesians 1:3-22 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved…”
Christians are blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places for they were chosen before the foundations of the world to be holy and blameless before the Lord. As a Christian you cannot act ordinary and behave like other people because you have a higher calling. When you were still in the world and did not know the purpose of your existence, you had no sense of direction. You went around in circles and did not reach your destination. But now that you are saved and washed clean by the blood of Jesus, you cannot walk and live like the unbelievers. Otherwise you will be like the man mentioned in James 1:23-25 who looks at his face in a mirror and after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. If you do that, you will in no way be different from a dog that returns to its vomit.
Romans 8:29 says “for those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren”. Being the first born, Jesus has modeled a way of living for us. We have to draw closer to Him and know Him so that we can adopt His character and live like Him. How are we going to be ambassadors of the Kingdom if we do not know Him? Many Christians receive the gift of salvation but soon start wasting time running after worldly things instead of pursuing Christ. This is because they do not have a revelation of the One they have received. They do not understand the purpose of their calling. Many chase after God’s blessings but have no idea who Christ is. Churches are overflowing with people who are not interested in Jesus; people who do not care whether Jesus shows up during their meetings or not; all their concerned about is getting material things from Him.
God is looking for true sons who are willing to be transformed into the image and likeness of Jesus Christ. He is looking for true ambassadors who understand that they have a very high calling which does not require them to walk haphazardly and in sin. Those who will seek His Kingdom above everything else and make Him their delight. God is looking for people who understand that friendship with the world is enmity with Him, people who will not conform to the standards of this world (James 4:4). When you stop caring about everything else and start focusing on seeking Him in worship, He will reveal Himself to you. You will begin to understand how faithful and beautiful He is and everything in your life will fall into place. Your relationship with Him will be so deep and meaningful that you will even start to thank Him for your troubles as you will know and understand that your troubles are birthing something good for you. You will feel safe in His love and care for you and all your fears, doubts and anxieties will automatically disappear.
Blessed reader, let me remind you that your calling is not by mistake. When the devil tries to distract you and undermine your effectiveness, tell Him that God has already made preparations for your life before you were even created. God knew that you will be reading this article before the creation of the world and He prepared this message for you. From among the crowds He picked you and separated you for His holy use so that He can display His glory and goodness through you. Ephesians 1:13-14 says that you were sealed with the Spirit of God who is a guarantee that you shall receive what God has promised His people. Since the Holy Spirit lives in you, the glory of God must reflect through you while you are still here on this earth. Others should be able to see the power of God that is able to save, deliver and change lives through you.
If you refuse to change you will cause others to despise the name of the Lord. God had to punish David for killing Uriah because He made people blaspheme the name of the Lord (2 Samuel 11&12). People who have been in the church who refuse to repent and keep on sinning are very dangerous for the Kingdom of God. They cause those who are not yet saved to think that there is no salvation, deliverance and healing in Jesus. Luke 12:48 says that “everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required". You cannot afford to keep playing with the grace you have received. You cannot keep hearing the word of God but still deny its power by continuing in sin. Far be it from you child of God!
It is very sad when you look at certain people who call themselves Christians but have no character or resemblance of Jesus in how they conduct their lifestyles. Jesus humbled Himself even to the point of death. Don’t we find many Christians today who are consumed with pride. God wants us to repent and be clothed with humility and to be like Jesus. If you do not have love, you have no revelation of who Christ is because Christ is love. If you cannot be empathetic and put yourself in other people's shoes then you do not know what you are called for. If you do not have compassion for another soul you do not know the Lord. Jesus said that He did not come to earth to be served but to serve others. When you serve others, the Lord shall accelerate you higher and higher.
It is very important for Christians to have a revelation of who Christ is so that they can understand the great gift that God has given unto them. Beloved, we are not ordinary people; we have been purchased at a very high price. We are adopted as sons of God. The Lord has prepared great things for us. We always have to hunger and thirst after His righteousness ( Matthew 6:33). When you decide to make Jesus your number one priority, everything else will cease to matter. The devil will try to distract you but he will fail. Tests will come your way but you will not lose sight of your call. You will seek Him, His beauty, His glory and His power.
