Luke 4:31-36 “And He descended to Capernaum, a town of Galilee, and there He continued to teach the people on the Sabbath days. And they were amazed at His teaching, for His word was with authority and ability and weight and power. Now in the synagogue there was a man who was possessed by the foul spirit of a demon; and he cried out with a loud (deep, terrible) cry, Ah, let us alone! What have You to do with us [What have we in common], Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know Who You are—the Holy One of God! But Jesus rebuked him, saying, be silent (muzzled, gagged), and come out of him! And when the demon had thrown the man down in their midst, he came out of him without injuring him in any possible way. And they were all amazed and said to one another, What kind of talk is this? For with authority and power He commands the foul spirits and they come out!

Throughout His entire earthly ministry, Jesus went around healing and delivering people from demonic spirits. Those who witnessed these wonders were always left amazed because Jesus’ Word had authority over foul spirits. Today, Christians still use the Word of Jesus to cast out demons and destroy the works of darkness. To avoid being cast out, the devil goes all out to make people think he does not exist. When you read the above passage carefully you will realize that the demon that Jesus was rebuking asked to be left alone. He wanted to operate in secrecy and destroy his victim without being noticed. The devil uses ignorance to successfully pull off his evil agenda. It is easy for him to steal, kill, and destroy if people think he does not exist. That is why today there are organizations of Satanists who are saying do not blame Satan for the evil that is going on in the world. Some say, anyway, Satan does not exist. We find children of God who support this and people then suffer greatly as a result of the church supporting what the Satanists are saying.

Operating in the open undermines the devil’s effectiveness. He knows that Christians will be awakened and start using their authority to stop him on his tracks if they become aware of his evil influence in our daily lives. But most Christians are not aware of this. They make a huge mistake of thinking that if they do not talk about the devil, he will vanish into thin air and not bother them. They forget that Jesus said that His followers will do what He did on earth and even more (John 14:12). So if Jesus chased out demons, who are they following if they deny the existence of evil spirits? If you are a Christian you will oppose the works of darkness. There is enmity between us and the devil. Evil spirits should not be comfortable where you are.
The demons in the above Scripture asked Jesus, “What have you to do with us, we do not have anything in common”. When you have Jesus and are filled with the Fire of God, you will always clash with the kingdom of darkness. Evil spirits will scream when they see you and you will not keep quiet when you see people suffer because of demonic oppression. A true church of Christ will always be opposed by the kingdom of darkness, and demons will always be traumatized in the presence of true Christians.

Being ignorant of demonic forces does not change the fact that there is a spiritual battle in which we are engaged. There are fierce evil forces that are fighting to make your life miserable and ultimately drag you to hell. If you decide not to fight, they will advance and destroy everything in your life. The good news is that Christians have been armed with spiritual weapons to use in the battle with Satan. However, we must understand the kind of battle that we are engaged in so that we do not waste ammunition. Our war is not against flesh and blood, but against powers of this dark world and spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms (Ephesians 6:12).
We must always be aware that there is a spiritual source behind every evil deed. If we are not aware of the enemy behind the problems we are facing, we will go all out trying to fight the devil using physical means. Governments of different countries are currently trying to solve spiritual problems using physical means. Hence their efforts are always in vain. The coronavirus has a spiritual origin, but leaders are only searching for scientific solutions. No wonder they cannot find a solution. These days, women and children are getting killed daily. This kind of wickedness is influenced by spiritual hosts of wickedness, principalities, and rulers of this dark age. Most people are looking up to the justice system to come up with solutions. But how can the justice system, if it is also ruled by the devil, oppose the deeds of the devil? A kingdom divided against itself will not stand.
People have marched against societal problems, but marching without prayer will not solve anything. We are dealing with a problem with a spiritual basis. This kind of problem needs the Church of Jesus Christ. We are supposed to be like Jesus who commanded the demons to be silent and come out. People make the mistake of thinking ignoring the devil will make him stay in his corner and not disturb them. Do not let the devil lie to you, child of God. The devil wants you to ignore him because he knows it shall be the end of his reign in your life if you become aware of his tactics. Christians need to wake up and stand against the devil through prayer. The weapons that we fight with are not of the world. They have divine power to demolish the strongholds of the devil (2 Corinthians 10:4).
Pray against the evil forces that are responsible for the suffering in our families, our neighborhoods, and our nation. Destroy the powers that are responsible for sicknesses. Demolish the strongholds of poverty, that are destroying families in our communities. Jesus’ presence in the synagogue caused trouble for the kingdom of the devil. We cannot let the devil to operate freely when we have been given the weapons of mass destruction. Pray against demons of women and child abuse. Stand against the evil spirits behind crime and behind drug abuse, etc. The Lord has given you the authority to trample upon snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the powers of the enemy (Luke 10:19). Use it and be blessed in the name of Jesus.
