DIG THROUGH THE ROOF WITH YOUR FASTING

Mark 2:1-5 “And again He entered Capernaum after some days, and it was heard that He was in the house. Immediately many gathered together, so that there was no longer room to receive them, not even near the door. And He preached the word to them. Then they came to Him, bringing a paralytic who was carried by four men. And when they could not come near Him because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where He was. So when they had broken through, they let down the bed on which the paralytic was lying. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.”

The Scriptures are filled with many promises made by God to those who believe in Christ. But many people make the mistake of believing that those promises will fall right on their laps with time. That is not the case in most cases as the devil places many blockages in the way of the believers so that they do not lay hold of what God has in store for them. The friends of the man in the above passage teach us a great lesson on how to deal with obstacles. When they tried to carry their paralytic friend to Jesus, they could not reach Him because he was surrounded by many people. However, they did not sit outside the door and got depressed about it.

They went all the way to the roof and dug a hole through which they let the paralytic down. Jesus was amazed by their faith and immediately declared that the man’s sins were forgiven. That is how you as a child of God should begin your 2022. Even if you are able to reach a door, it is not enough to just knock on it because some doors require force to be opened. There are times when you must push it open. When your push does not force the door to open, kick it. When there are many people preventing you from entering through the door, like the friends of the paralytic, go up the roof and dig through it.

You know that Jesus is the only solution to all your problems. There are times when you have to go all out to get where He is because He holds the key to your health, your prosperity, your career and everything else in your life. There is no time to sit down, cry and look defeated. Learn from our experience as Unity Fellowship Church, since the lockdown. We never took things lying down even though we were greatly opposed. We take opposition as a challenge to be conquered, an obstacle to be removed, or a nuisance that is supposed to be dealt with. It is an opportunity to overcome and praise the Lord, not something to make us sit down and cry.

In all situations, we see pending victories and not pending doom. We are driven to push and kick because we know there are things that belong to us on the other side. We also know that we are not alone when we are facing difficult situations. Heaven is cheering us to carry on until we get to the finish line. When we hit something and it lands on the target, heaven applauds. When we fall heaven encourages us to get up and try again. Just be reminded of that when you are facing difficult situations. The Lord Himself shall cheer you on because He understands your journey. He also went through persecution and oppositions while He was still walking the streets of the earth.

If you have been praying for some things for a very long time but have not laid hold of them, it is time to dig through the roof with fasting. If you have already done the normal fast of breaking in the evening, take it up the notch and start with a three or seven days straight fast. If you have already done that, go for the 14 or 21 days fasting. Whatever you do, dig up the roof and enter where Jesus is. Your fasting shall break through for you. When you climb the roof you risk falling, but your faith shall work for you. Be desperate like the men in this Scripture and you shall get Jesus’ attention.

Let your actions scream to the Lord that you want His attention and see if you cannot get a breakthrough. Even the offering that you bring must get His attention. Some people will criticize and accuse you of being too forward when you are busy digging the roof, but they will enjoy the same benefits when you break through. Learn from our experience as a church. While fighting for the churches to open fully on February 28th, we were shot by police, but a lot changed afterward. The number of people allowed to gather in all churches was increased and everyone was allowed to go to church during the Easters.

The same thing happened when we were fighting for the curfew to be lifted. Others criticized and complained that we were talking too much, but we carried them on a stretcher like paralytics and all churches got a chance to have their own night prayers on New Year’s Eve. Some people are children of God but they are paralyzed and need others to carry them. Though they are criticizing, they are now enjoying the lift of being carried on a stretcher. You have seen Jesus and know how to reach Him. Dig through the roof and carry paralytics. How can a person who is given full use of his legs sit down and look like those who are unable to walk?

Not only will God answer your prayers when you dig through the roof, He will also give you things that you did not pray for. Ephesians 3:20 tells us that the Lord is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we ask or think. When we read through the gazette after the New Year’s Eve curfew was lifted, we realized that it was not just that change that was made. All churches are now allowed to accommodate a thousand people inside a closed building. We were only fighting for the curfew to be lifted, but the Lord did way above that. We all know that our government does not consider churches when making decisions, but the Lord fought for us.

We have held meetings, written letters, and even went to the courts but nothing happened. When we were left with few options, we went to the Twitter streets. At the end of the day, God did what we did not even pray or ask for, proving that He is able to do exceedingly above and beyond our expectations. Child of God, do not just allow things to happen haphazardly in your life this year. If the door you have been knocking on does not open, push it. If it does not open, kick it. If that does not work, go up and dig through the roof to reach where Jesus is.
