2021 Unity 40 Days Fasting Sermon: Day 4

Hebrews 1:13-14 But to which of the angels has He ever said: “Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your Enemies Your footstool”? Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?

Angels play a very important role in our daily lives as Christians. Knowing the roles that angels play shall help you live your Christian life in confidence and without fear, especially during such anxiety provoking times. Psalm 34:7 tells us that the angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear God and rescues them. When you receive Christ, you are automatically assigned an angel to guard you everywhere you go and ensure that the fiery darts of the enemy do not penetrate you. Even though most Christians are ignorant of this, there is an invincible being allocated to protect you when you get into trouble.

The event in Genesis 19:15-17 is a perfect illustration of the active involvement of angels in our lives. When God was destroying Sodom and Gomorrah because of their immorality, He sent angles to rescue Lot and his family. The angels urged them to hurry, and when they delayed to flee, the angels literally grabbed them by their hands and forcibly brought them to safety. This shows that angels can even force you out of a harmful situation when push comes to shove. In fact, most people can relate to Lot’s experience.

We have heard many testimonies of people who were miraculously rescued out of fatal accidents. They found themselves having been miraculously yanked out of collisions that left cars squashed beyond recognition. These people are often left puzzled and wonder how they were saved from such dangerous situations. The fact is that you, child of God, have invisible bodyguards who walk with you everywhere you go. Right now people are dropping dead in large numbers. Have you ever wondered why you are still standing during such times?

Acts 12:1-11 gives an account of Peter’s escape from prison. King Herod was persecuting Christians for preaching the gospel of Christ. After killing James and John’s brother with a sword, he arrested Peter and delivered him to four squads of soldiers to guard him. Herod had already finalized that he was going to kill Peter. In the meantime, the church made constant prayers for him. While they were praying, the Lord dispatched His angel to rescue Peter. Peter’s chains suddenly fell off and the prison doors swung open, and he escaped.

This passage portrays the power of prayer. Even though we may take our prayers for granted, they actually set angels in motion. Angels are deployed and they move in accordance with our confessions every time we pray together in one accord as saints. Miracles happen and captives are set free. Not only do angels protect and rescue, but they can also strike our enemies to death (Isaiah 37:36). Do not worry about those who take advantage and attack you when you are asleep. The angels shall deal with them.

In Daniel 10 we read about Daniel’s experience with the angel of the Lord. Israel was in trouble and Daniel decided to mourn for three weeks seeking God’s intervention on behalf of his nation. An angel of the Lord visited him while he was by the Tigris River and assured him that his prayers were heard from the first day he began mourning. However, as the angel was on his way to deliver Daniel’s answers, the prince of the kingdom of Persia opposed and retained him for 21 days. This prince is a satanic figure who was assigned to supervise the affairs of Persia, inspiring its structures to evil. While the angel was retained like that, Michael the prince of Israel came to rescue him.

It is important to first note that Daniel was not making selfish supplications. He was praying for the nation of Israel. We are also living in critical times that call for the prayers of the Christians. Let us learn from Daniel and put our selfish desires aside to pray for the national crisis at hand. As you pray for everyone, God shall give you everything you need without even asking. Do not be pre-occupied with worldly things like power and wealth. The Lord shall take care of all our needs. As we pray, God shall release angels to deliver our answers.

Of course, the rulers of darkness and spiritual hosts of wickedness that are assigned over our nation will try to block the angels. As we continue praying the Lord shall dispatch angel Michael to fight with them. Like Daniel, we shall receive the answers to our prayers. Do not be afraid wherever you are, child of God. Just know that there are angels that are always fighting against those who oppose us. We shall emerge winners because Jesus has already won the spiritual battle for us. Remember that “no evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; For He shall give His angels charge over your, to keep you in all your ways”. This is a promise made by the Lord in Psalm 91:10-11.

Child of God, I want you to pray with confidence because angels are given charge over you and your nation. Our prayers together shall dismantle the powers of darkness. Even though we cannot see with the physical eye the fight that is happening spiritually, we are assured that the powers of darkness are defeated through our prayers. Do not be afraid, and do not stop praying as the angels are at work through your prayers. Stay strong and keep fasting.
