If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief! Key Verse: Mark 9:22-24 (NIV)

From the key verses cited above, we hear the words spoken by the Lord Jesus to the father of a demon possessed boy. The father was tired of seeing his son suffer; he then took his problem to Jesus. However, his faith was lacking, he said to Jesus “But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” After hearing the uncertainty in his words, Jesus told him that everything is possible to him who believes. Because he did not want to miss an opportunity of his problem not being solved, the father admitted the imperfection on his faith; he then pleaded Jesus to help him overcome his unbelief. He did not want to limit what Jesus could do.

My brethren, when you truly believe, you will set no limits on what God can do. Like the concerned father mentioned above, you should ask the Lord to help you overcome your unbelief. You should pray in faith, asking God to do far beyond all that you can ask or think. When you do that you acknowledge your limitation in your strength and abilities.

When you are facing impossible trials, you must be on guard against doubting God. Never doubt God’s ability because there is nothing impossible with Him. Never question God, but believe that He is able to act in your situation. Refuse to be like Naaman who became doubtful after the servant of God Elisha told him to go and wash in the River Jordan seven times so he could be healed of leprosy (2 Kings 5:1-16). Naaman did not know that his healing was going to come by the power of God when he obeyed and believed Elisha’s word.

Have faith in the Lord. Believe that He is taking you where it is good even if conditions do not allow you at that moment. In Numbers 13, twelve spies were sent to explore Canaan, but, only Caleb and Joshua were able to see beyond the challenges in Canaan because they believed that He who has promised was able to fulfil the promises.

You should believe my brethren, that God is able to take away even those generational curses that have been in your family. It does not matter what your forefathers did, you as a believer of Christ shall obtain mercy from God. The Lord will enable you to dine at the kings table for the rest of your life like He did in the case of Mephibosheth (2 Samuel 9). Pray big prayers with faith in a Mighty God, because He is able to do far more than you can imagine.
