THE LORD IS YOUR SHIELD, NO ONE CAN HARM YOU

O Lord, how many are my foes! Many are rising against me; many are saying of my soul, “There is no salvation for him in God.” But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head. I cried aloud to the Lord, and he answered me from his holy hill. I lay down and slept; I woke again, for the Lord sustained me. I will not be afraid of many thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around. Arise, O Lord! Save me, O my God for you strike all my enemies on the cheek; you break the teeth of the wicked. Salvation belongs to the Lord; your blessing be on your people! Scripture reading: Psalm 3:1-8

David wrote this psalm at time when he was fleeing from his son Absalom. Absalom killed his brother and ran away from David after this murder. When he returned to Jerusalem after three years, he became resentful towards David and this led him to start a rebellion against his father. He started making arrangements to have himself proclaimed as king of Israel.

Absalom soon mobilised forces against David. All Israel and Judah flocked to him, such that David began to fear for his life and fled Jerusalem. Those who pursued him doubted that God will deliver him, but David was a man of faith who never doubted His God.

He described God as his shield. A shield is a broad piece of defensive armour that is used for protection. A shield protects you and blocks harmful arrows from coming your way. He knows that no one qualifies to bring him harm even while he sleeps, as long as God is with Him.

Maybe you are in a similar situation as David. The devil brought you so many problems hoping to destroy you. God loved David dearly and it is very important to note that it is this love that sustained him in difficult times. Like David, the Love of God will sustain you and those fiery darts of the devil will not harm you because Jesus is your shield. Nothing will separate you from the love of God (Romans 8:35-39.)

As a child of God, you must always be reminded that the problems that you have were allowed by God to build you and take you somewhere. Those troubles are your private jet, designed to quickly land you to your divine destination. Do not be frightened of the Goliath that stands before you.
